Child Support Laws Updated

The State updated the child support guidelines in May of 2008.  You may see an increase of 2 to 5% the next time your child support is adjusted.  See more info in the December 2008 Blog and in the CS Calculators Section

Sensitivity Analysis

In this section I examine three issues that you need to be aware of if child support is going to make sense to you. First, lower income individuals pay a greater percentage of their total income in child support. Take a look at this page for that proposition. Second, changes in the custodial parent's income will not have as great an impact on the child support owed as changes in the "other parent's" income. Information regarding this is available here. Finally, and this is a simple point, extra expenses will be paid in proportion to the parties percentage of the total income. This page has information supporting this proposition.
